Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens better known as Queen Latifah, is an American rapper actress and singer. Queen Latifah's performance in television and music has been recognized with the Golden Globe award two Screen Actors Guild Awards two Image Awards a Grammy Award Six additional Grammy nominations, an Emmy Award nomination and an Academy Award nomination. Queen Latifah was raised in Newark, New Jersey. The daughter is Rita Owens, Sr. and Lancelot Owens Jr. Her father and mother separated when Latifah reached the age of ten. Latifah, who was born and brought up within Newark New Jersey attended Catholic schools in Newark. Latifah refers to gentle and kind. Her cousin gave it to her at the age of aged eight. Latifah, 5-foot-10" tall forward on the team at her high school, was always tall. The song she sang was"Home" from The Wiz at a school play. Latifah started beatboxing for the group known as Ladies Fresh. Latifah was one of the members of the original form of Flavor Unit which at that time consisted composed of MCs and producers led by DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King made an audition recording of Queen Latifah's song Princess of the Posse. The recording was given to host Yo! MTV Raps the Fab Five Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was interested by the tune. He signed Latifah and dropped her debut single Wrath of My Madness in 1988.
